A visual aid can be digital (video, image, picture) or 3-dimensional (something you hold).
What are we using a visual aid for?
Visual aids can enhance a presentation or speech by allowing the audience to look at something other than your beautiful, smiling face. It also will either provide further information to support your arguments (appeal to reason) or provide an emotional reaction (appeal to emotion).
What makes a good visual aid?

What makes a terrible visual aid?
- Hard to see (often too much information)
- More than 30 words! - TOO MUCH!
- Doesn't go with what you are saying!
- When the speaker doesn't explain what it is.
- Too much color or no color! (equally as bad)
- Uses reds, oranges, and light pastels in the text
