Subtopic Help!
Can't figure out what subtopics to use?
Subtopics are the sections of your paper that focus on smaller, "mini-topics" of your main topic. These subtopics will each have a paragraph in the body of your paper (the middle paragraphs).
It helps to pose the subtopic as a question; your paragraph becomes the answer to that question.
If you are using "What" in your subtopic questions more than once, you are trying to do 2 different topics in one paper. GET RID OF ONE OF THEM!

Topic = Superstorm Sandy
Subtopic 1 = What happened?
Topic Sentence = Superstorm Sandy was a terrible disaster that ripped apart the Eastern seaboard of the U.S.
Subtopic 2 = Why did it happen?
Topic Sentence = Global climate change is one of the main reasons why scientists believe Superstorm Sandy hit with such force.
Subtopic 3 = What effect did it have?
Topic Sentence = The disastrous storm caused billions of dollars of damage due to the strength of the storm and the dense population along the shoreline.
